Giselle
Presented from Royal Opera House, London
BIG ARTS will screen Giselle in replacement of the originally scheduled
The Rite of Spring ballet
7 PM Thursday, April 11
BIG ARTS Schein Performance Hall
Giselle is one of the most influential of all Romantic ballets, and one of the greatest and most popular works of the dance canon and of The Royal Ballet's repertory. The title role presents the transcendental power of a woman's love in the face of betrayal and is one of the most technically demanding and emotionally challenging roles in classical dance – not surprisingly, it is here a great showcase for the leading ballerinas of the Company. Peter Wright's sensitive staging in the atmospheric designs by John Macfarlane heightens the contrast as the story moves between the human and supernatural worlds. This production stars artists of The Royal Ballet, featuring Marianela Nuñez and Rupert Pennefather.

Taylor 2
January 2012
Fifty years after the legendary Paul Taylor began redefining dance, his dancers continue to perform his works around the world. The Taylor 2 company was specially created for smaller community audiences like BIG ARTS. In selecting the repertoire for Taylor 2, Taylor chooses arrangements that span the broad spectrum of his ever-growing collection of dances, which are known for athleticism, humor, and range of emotions. Many of the pieces have been reworked from the original, celebrated version to enable Taylor 2 to perform them on tour. Gia Kourlas wrote in The New York Times, "Taylor 2 is a kind of miracle ... all of the dancers are considerable talents [who] unite fearlessness with skill."
