Tosca
Presented in HD from The Royal Opera House, London
Thursday, November 17, 2011
Captured live from a production at the Royal Opera House, Puccini's Tosca is a melodramatic three-act opera set in Rome in June 1800 during Napoleon's invasion of Italy. Dramatic depictions of torture, murder and suicide accompany some of Puccini's best known lyrical arias, which have inspired many memorable performances from opera's leading singers over the years. Tosca itself premiered at a time of noted unrest in Italy in 1900 but became an immediate success with the public. The dramatic force of Tosca continues today as one of the world's most frequently performed and revered operas.
