BIG ARTS Scholarship Programs


Scholarships made possible by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation,
Patricia & Davis Thurber, the Robbie Snipes Dance Scholarship,
and the Kenneth L. Nees Classical Music Scholarship

Scholarships for Visual Arts, Writing/Literary Arts, Film
or Performing Arts Students:

Following a rigorous interview and selection process, scholarships are awarded to high school seniors and college students studying visual arts, music, dance, theater, or film to encourage continued artistic development. Scholarships are made possible by the generosity of Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Patricia and Davis Thurber, The Robbie Snipes Dance Scholarship and by community support of the BIG ARTS BIG SECRET artworks event. Applications are due Friday, March 30, 2012.

In spring 2012 the scholarship committee will consider funding for, but not limited to, tuition associated with any arts-related degree or advanced workshops. In order to be eligible for a BIG ARTS Award, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • High School Senior
  • Student currently enrolled in accredited undergraduate or graduate programs
  • Individual who has received their Bachelor’s degree and who has worked for a period of time and is returning to school for an advanced degree

And also must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Current resident of Sanibel or Captiva for at least two years
  • Currently employed (or have a parent employed) on Sanibel or Captiva for at least two years
  • Current member of BIG ARTS for two years (one year for students)
  • Current resident of Lee County

Funds may be used for an educational institution’s tuition, books, art supplies, or equipment.

BIG ARTS/Kenneth L. Nees Classical Music Scholarship:

Students who have professional goals to pursue classical musical instruments, including piano, composition and conducting, are invited to apply. This scholarship is for highly-proficient and talented students who plan to continue their classical music studies. Applications are due in September of 2012.
